CHARITY EVENTS
During winter there
are regular boot fairs around the island resorts they are in aid of
animal welfare and raise money to help the many homeless dogs and cats
that roam the streets. The boot fairs are held on a Sunday at a
different location each week, not only can you pick up a bargain or two
but if you have items you wish to sell then you can hire a stall for a
small fee, this money goes to the charity and perhaps you can make a few Euros
too.
The boot fairs are also a meeting place for all the ex-pats on the
island.
At Christmas the Animal
Welfare Association organise a Fair in one of the squares in Zakynthos
Town. There are stalls selling homemade foods and craft items. It ends
with carol singing. In 2008 about €1000 was raised.

At the end of March
in 2007 another charity event took place in Kalamaki, this was raising
funds for the Children's Summer camp at Koukla. The money was
raised in memory of Tony Hardman a great supporter of this charity. The
charity
gives children the chance to have a holiday who would otherwise not be
able to afford one. The evening was filled with raffles, Bingo, and other
events and music from local groups and singers, one being Tony's wife
Toni Anthony. The whole event was the idea of George and Mary of Lithakia, friends and supporters of the charity.
