Water charges

Postby bryan » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:10 pm

I was looking up information on the living on crete site, for ideas. I read on one that a couple were looking for water supply to there house.
and the reply read something like this.
That there are two differant water supplies/rates. One is the domestic and the other, if you so much land with Olive trees. you can apply for Agricultural water supply.
Now I read this a while back and I cannot find it when I do a search. Does this apply in Zakynthos. Could anyone let me know. thanks.

I have not heard of any different water tarif for farming. The rate in Zakynthos seems to be €0.64 for first 80 cubic meters, €0.84 upto 200 cubic meters and €0.95 over 200 cu m, plus €5.87 general charge.

I did notice, on a visit to Crete that many more farmers did water olive trees. In Zakynthos, very few farmers seem to use water once the olive trees are mature. Also many farms and even homes have a well, here in Zakynthos. This is possible because the water table is not too deep and so a well can be excavated with a digger, it does not need a drilling machine. Note having your own well, without permission, may not be legal!
